Chukchi Consortium Library to close Sept. 1

The Chukchi Consortium Library in Kotzebue will close permanently on Sept. 1, 2025.

51窪蹋勛圖厙 made the decision to close the library due to declining state and local funding.

The 51窪蹋勛圖厙 Chukchi Campus has operated the library with local contributions from the Northwest Arctic Borough since 2010. 51窪蹋勛圖厙 has provided the space on campus and internet access. 51窪蹋勛圖厙 and the borough have shared the expense for staffing the library.

Although the library will close in the fall, 51窪蹋勛圖厙 will continue to welcome members of the public to the campus for internet and computer access during regular business hours.

We are committed to the Kotzebue community and want to ensure that local residents still have access to the connectivity they need, said Bryan Uher, interim vice chancellor for Rural, Native and Community Education. The campus is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

51窪蹋勛圖厙 will also be evaluating the space that formerly housed the Consortium Library with the goal of using it for both educational and community purposes in the future. The university will also be reviewing the materials and equipment at the library to determine whether they can be used for other purposes at the campus or surplussed.
